The case of Shawn Hogan, the million who was sued by the RIAA and is fighting back, has prompter some interesting discussion of how the system works, and the pros and cons of changing it. Discusses the idea of making copyright non-transferable, which is something I thought was a good idea due to the power that record companies have over artists but is actually not that clear cut.
It seems all methods of publishing art of any kind are dominated by large corporations who exert control by sheer volume, and profit enourmously at the expense of both artists and consumers of art. Once, they were performing a valuable role in financing the production, distribuition and promotion of art, but for some forms of art (such as music), technology has brought those things into the reach of the artists.

Weird perspective, something to do with the cameraphone I think, looks as if the buildings are leaning in around the church.
Love the skulls above the gate, doubt anyone would decorate a church like that these days!!

Great. Now I’m going to have to disable the ‘incoming links’ panel on my blog. It’s powered by Technorati’s service that shows who is linking to your blog. So the bright spark spammers just link to every blog in the world with their keywords for their blog title…
Why does nobody plan for stuff like this? Everything free will be abused. Always. For ever.

The American TV show ‘Oprah’ has put together a ‘ Debt Diet‘ guide which is apparently highly regarded. It includes such tips as
‘If you put just $10 a day towards your debt, in one year you could put $3600 towards your debt!’
‘Pay credit card bills on time to avoid late fees’
Try ‘Putting your children in public school’
…and every page warns you to consult a financial advisor. I know they legally have to put things like that but it would be more responsible to also point out that there are number of ways in which you can get good advice on debt issues without spending more money!!
If that’s a good guide, what does a bad one look like?
