Two more nice looking products: A PIM client and a Groupware server that it plugs into.

There’s a brief article which mentions Plaxo and compares it to Chandler here:
The Chandler concept is a lot more interesting to me. I’d heard about it a while ago, but it seemed vapourware then.
Looking at the parent website, it seems like they are making significant progress now. They have posted about the acquisition of some new developers from related projects, so there is some significant talent getting to work on this:

Some more PIM/Syncing browsing results
GMailer is a PHP library for accessing Gmail. Could be useful to integrate gmail contacts with PIM or others.
Plaxo is a nice sync/backup tool that connects to all sorts of PIM tools and has an online companent. It claims some kind of mobile support too which is nice. A very complete solution, but 2 major problems with this: 1 – All your data will be stored unenvrypted on 3rd party servers, so you have to trust yet another startup to secure your data (and continue existing!). 2 – It adds it’s own branding into all sorts of intrusive places, like signitures on your emails.
The website is pretty poor on details of the UI and capabilities too. Wouldn’t hurt them to post some screen shots and technical details.
All in all, it’s a good effort but it won’t suit me.

Here’s a useful utility – import your existing email archives into gmail to use the powerful search feature to its potential. Gmail’s not missing much now. A powerful synchronize tool for contacts, and a calander/to do list would make it the ultimate PIM tool…. although being able to link booby up with it would get booby closer to the ultimate PIM tool, with the addition of better privacy.
Now, if they would just update Google Desktop Search to search your Gmail too, as well as your Firefox history, GAIM conversations, media tags and all the ASCII files on your disk, allow custom community created filters for other files and allow you to link indexes on multiple computers, then the rest of the ‘desktop search’ world would never catch up. Take your opportunity google. Push the envelope of desktop search like you did with search and email.
